what can i do?
can you treat Anxiety?
Anxiety is treatable. ABA has shown to be helpful when addressing issues relating to anxiety. ABA is an evidence based practice which uses strategies and procedures that help the symptoms of anxiety. For example, ABA focuses on decreasing behaviors the individual with anxiety avoids by increasing positive reinforcement (rewarding desirable behavior where a stimulus such as a preferred item is provided that in turns increases the behavior in the future).
ABA Therapy
Behavior Analyst help individuals with anxiety lessen their fears through behavioral exposure. In other words the Behavior Analyst creates a safe environment to expose the individual to their fears.
Find a Good Therapist
ABA is not for everyone - and not every therapist will be a good fit. Find someone you and your child are comfortable with.
Educate Yourself
The Behavior Analyst and individual discuss how specific triggers (internal and external) can result in anxiety. Once those internal and external triggers are identified the Behavior Analyst helps the individual in reducing avoidant behaviors and increasing healthy behaviors.
